🍐 A Study in Stillness: Pears in Light and Shadow

🍐 A Study in Stillness: Pears in Light and Shadow   Acrylic on Canvas | Original Artwork by CRA [Image 1 – Initial Sketch Stage] [Image 2 – Mid Painting Process]  [Image 3 – Final Artwork] 🎨 The Concept This artwork explores the quiet elegance of everyday objects. A simple bowl of pears becomes a subject of depth, texture, and light. The composition reflects a timeless still-life tradition, where ordinary forms are transformed into visual poetry. 🖌️ Artistic Process The journey began with a loose sketch to establish composition and balance. With acrylics, layering was approached strategically — starting with thin underpainting and gradually building opacity and highlights. Fast-drying acrylic allowed controlled detailing, especially in defining form, edges, and reflections. Warm tones were established first, followed by vibrant greens and highlights to create depth and realism. 🌿 Visual Interpretation The pears symbolize abundance, ...

International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism – 12th February

🌍 International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism – 12th February

Building Peace Before Conflict Begins

Every year on 12th February, the world observes the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism as and when Conducive to Terrorism, proclaimed by the United Nations. This day emphasizes a powerful truth:
Peace is not only protected by force—it is built by foresight.

Violent extremism thrives where fear, exclusion, injustice, and misinformation take root. This observance shifts global focus from reaction to prevention, reminding us that lasting security begins with education, inclusion, opportunity, and dialogue.

🌱 Understanding Violent Extremism

Violent extremism is not born overnight. It grows from:

  • Social and economic inequality

  • Lack of education and opportunity

  • Discrimination and marginalization

  • Misinformation and propaganda

  • Feelings of alienation and hopelessness

When individuals feel unseen or unheard, destructive ideologies can fill the void. Prevention, therefore, is not only about security—it is about human connection and dignity.

🌍 Why This Day Matters

This observance calls upon nations and communities to:

  • Address root causes of radicalization

  • Promote education and critical thinking

  • Empower youth with purpose and opportunity

  • Foster inclusion and social cohesion

  • Encourage dialogue across cultures and beliefs

True safety is not created by walls—it is created by understanding.

The strongest defense against extremism is a society where every individual feels valued.

🧭 The Role of Youth and Education

Young people are the future architects of peace. When guided by:

  • Education

  • Creativity

  • Civic engagement

  • Ethical leadership

  • Digital literacy

they become builders, not breakers.

Prevention begins in classrooms, homes, communities, and online spaces—where ideas are shaped long before actions are taken.

🎨 An Artistic Reflection

For an artist, extremism is the absence of color.

It narrows vision.
It flattens identity.
It replaces dialogue with division.

Art does the opposite. It opens windows. It invites empathy. It reminds us that diversity is not a threat—it is a masterpiece.

Every painting that celebrates difference is an act of peace.
Every story that humanizes the “other” is a shield against hatred.

🕊️ Ways to Observe This Day

  • Promote respectful dialogue in your community

  • Encourage critical thinking and media literacy

  • Support youth programs and education

  • Stand against hate speech and discrimination

  • Celebrate diversity through art and culture

Peace grows where understanding is practiced.

🔚 Conclusion – Prevention Is the Highest Form of Protection

The International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism reminds us that the most effective way to stop violence is to nurture hope before despair takes hold.

A world that listens reduces anger.
A world that includes reduces isolation.
A world that educates reduces manipulation.

Let us build societies where no one needs extremism to feel seen.

When minds are opened, weapons fall silent.
