🍐 A Study in Stillness: Pears in Light and Shadow   Acrylic on Canvas | Original Artwork by CRA [Image 1 – Initial Sketch Stage] [Image 2 – Mid Painting Process]  [Image 3 – Final Artwork] 🎨 The Concept This artwork explores the quiet elegance of everyday objects. A simple bowl of pears becomes a subject of depth, texture, and light. The composition reflects a timeless still-life tradition, where ordinary forms are transformed into visual poetry. 🖌️ Artistic Process The journey began with a loose sketch to establish composition and balance. With acrylics, layering was approached strategically — starting with thin underpainting and gradually building opacity and highlights. Fast-drying acrylic allowed controlled detailing, especially in defining form, edges, and reflections. Warm tones were established first, followed by vibrant greens and highlights to create depth and realism. 🌿 Visual Interpretation The pears symbolize abundance, ...

Central Excise Day – 24th February

🌍 Central Excise Day – 24th February

Honoring Revenue Systems that Support National Development

Every year on 24th February, Central Excise Day is observed to commemorate the establishment of the Central Excise and Salt Act of 1944 in India. While national in origin, the theme behind this observance carries global relevance—recognizing how taxation systems sustain governance, public services, and economic stability.

Revenue administration may work quietly behind the scenes, but it forms the backbone of national development.

Roads,
healthcare,
education,
infrastructure,
social welfare—
all stand on the strength of effective revenue systems.

🌱 What Is Central Excise?

Central excise refers to a form of indirect tax levied on goods manufactured within a country. In India, it historically played a major role in:

  • Regulating manufacturing industries

  • Generating government revenue

  • Monitoring production and compliance

  • Supporting national development projects

Although India has transitioned to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system, Central Excise Day continues to honor:

  • The legacy of excise administration

  • The contribution of excise officers

  • The evolution of fair and transparent taxation

Tax systems evolve—but their purpose remains service to society.

🌍 Why This Day Matters

Central Excise Day highlights:

  • The importance of lawful taxation

  • Ethical revenue collection

  • Economic discipline and accountability

  • Public service through administration

  • Transparency between government and citizens

Strong revenue systems ensure that:

  • Development is sustainable

  • Public services are funded

  • Economic inequality is addressed

  • Industries operate responsibly

  • National growth remains balanced

Taxes are not penalties.
They are participation in nation-building.

🌍 A Global Perspective

Across the world, excise and indirect taxes help governments:

  • Regulate harmful goods (tobacco, alcohol, fuels)

  • Protect public health

  • Balance trade and production

  • Fund essential services

  • Stabilize economies

While tax structures differ globally, the principle is universal:
Shared responsibility builds shared progress.

🎨 An Artistic Reflection

For an artist, governance systems are invisible structures—
like the canvas behind a painting.

They are not seen,
but without them,
nothing holds.

Just as art needs balance,
societies need structure.

Order enables creativity.
Stability enables expression.
Systems enable civilization.

🕊️ Ways to Observe Central Excise Day

  • Learn how taxation supports development

  • Appreciate public service professionals

  • Teach financial literacy and civic responsibility

  • Encourage transparency and compliance

  • Reflect on the role of citizens in governance

  • Respect institutions that sustain society

Responsible citizenship strengthens democracy.

🔚 Conclusion – Quiet Systems, Lasting Impact

Central Excise Day reminds us that progress is not only driven by visible achievements—but by systems that work silently and consistently.

Behind every hospital,
every road,
every school,
and every public service—
stands structured revenue administration.

By honoring excise systems and their officers, we honor the foundation of public welfare.

When systems are fair, nations grow strong.
